Paraphrase power: stop repeating the same word
Synonyms, nominalisation and pronouns — the top lever for the vocabulary-range criterion.
Repeating the same noun or verb five times is the single most visible sign of a limited vocabulary — and evaluators notice instantly. The fix is not to know thousands of words but to master three moves: swapping in a synonym, turning a verb into a noun (nominalisation), and replacing a noun with a pronoun. Together they let you circle a topic without echoing yourself.

Turning a verb into a noun lets you refer back to an action without repeating the verb. « Les prix ont augmenté » can become « Cette augmentation inquiète les ménages » in the next sentence. Nominalisation also compresses ideas, which suits the concise style of a good argumentative text.

Handy replacements to avoid echoing a noun
- le, la, les, en, y — object pronouns replacing a noun already mentioned
- celui-ci, celle-ci, ce dernier / cette dernière — to point back to the last item
- ce phénomène, cette situation, un tel choix — umbrella nouns that recap an idea
